Inpatient Rehabilitation
Some hospital patients may be referred by their physician to our inpatient rehabilitation services team. Depending on your needs, you will receive an individualized program of physical, occupational, or speech therapy, designed to prepare you for safe discharge from the hospital.
Acute Rehabilitation: The Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit at Stamford Hospital is a 17-bed, JCAHO-accredited rehab unit located on the third floor of the hospital. The unit serves adults living with permanent or temporary disabilities. The goal of treatment at Van Munching is to help you maximize or restore a functional level of independence.
Comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services are provided for patients who have experienced a functional loss due to a disabling illness or injury including:
- Stroke (CVA)
- Congenital Deformities
- Major Multiple Trauma
- Brain Injury
- Amputation
- Polyarthritis/Joint Replacement
- Neurological Disorders
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Femur (Hip) Fracture
- General Debility
Each patient admitted to the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit receives an initial assessment within 24 hours of admission by a physiatrist, or a physician specializing in rehabilitative medicine, and the nursing staff. After assessment, either one or all of the following therapies will be recommended:
- Physical Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech Therapy
- Psychological Counseling
Your treatment plan will be reassessed weekly by our multidisciplinary team. You will have a case manager to coordinate your care and assist you and your family with discharge planning.
Clinical activities and services provided at the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit include patient and family education, pastoral care, nutritional counseling, prosthetic and orthotic fitting, home evaluations, and social work.
