Information for Providers
Written order forms are required for an appointment. If they are not received in advanced or on the day of the exam, the appointment may be delayed and/or cancelled.
Please inform the scheduling office of any special patient instructions when ordering a procedure.

Many insurance carriers require a pre-certification or authorization number prior to the administration of a radiological exam. These insurance carriers often require the referring provider to provide the insurance company with some clinical information concerning your medical condition and, sometimes, prior treatments. Other carriers may simply require that the patient contact the carrier to obtain a pre-certification or authorization number.
Stamford Hospital requires that a pre-certification or authorization number be provided prior to the scheduled radiological exam.
Without your insurance carrier's pre-certification or authorization number you:

May become fully financially responsible for any services rendered, OR
- Your appointment may need to be rescheduled

The following information, in addition to specific clinical information, may be required by the insurance carrier in order to approve a pre-certification or authorization number:
It is strongly recommended that patients review their benefit information regarding pre-certification or authorization requirements prior to their appointments.
The hospital's Insurance Verification Team is available to assist with questions related to pre-certification or authorization numbers and can be reached at 203-276-7325.
- Turnaround time for results (time of exam to final radiologist report) is approximately 24 hours

- Exceptions:
- Diagnostic breast exam results are provided same-day
- Invasive exams that require pathology will be available within 3-5 business days
- Screening mammography results will be provided within 7-10 business days
- If you require immediate results, please request STAT READ when ordering exam
- Results are faxed to referring physicians' offices the moment they are finalized (signed) by a radiologist
- Reports may be mailed to referring physicians' offices by special request
- Vocada (Critical Results Reporting)
- Special system to enhance communication of critical results
- Referring physician selects preferred method of communication (beeper, fax, phone call)
- Radiology department utilizes PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for digital imaging on all modalities
- Copies of exams may be provided, at no charge on CD (digital format) and can be received at any site
- Film copies may be provided by request for special circumstances
