Our 305-bed, not-for-profit hospital is a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System. Our nurses work with world-renowned physicians and receive specialized training that few community hospitals can offer.

Understanding that only excellent nurses deliver excellent hospital patient care, we work hard to attract, recruit and retain the best, brightest and most compassionate nurses available for the Stamford Hospital nursing program. Our nurses receive ongoing training and are encouraged to pursue continuing and higher education levels to meet their own professional goals.

Stamford Hospital's nurse-to-patient ratios are among the highest in the state. Our nurses are dedicated to delivering the patient-centered philosophy of care that comes with being a Planetree Hospital and to meeting the highest professional nursing standards which are a requirement to maintain our status as a Magnet Hospital, acknowledgement that our nurses rank among the nation's best.

Our Magnet Designation for Excellence in Nursing Services

In August of 2005 Stamford Hospital was named a recipient of the Magnet™ Award of Excellence in Nursing Services by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). This award represents the highest honor a hospital's nursing program can achieve. Fewer than 3% of the nation's hospitals qualify for Magnet™ nursing designation. Stamford Hospital is the only hospital in Fairfield County to attain this status - and one of only three Magnet™ hospitals in the State of Connecticut
