The program offers multiple approaches to medical education, including small teaching groups, role models for guidance and leadership, didactic education focused on clinical relevance, active participation in patient care and the teaching process, and assumption of responsibility. Curriculum Structure
The curriculum focuses on the Internal Medicine physician as a member of a team that works to meet the health needs of the patients. Our curriculum structure provides our resident physicians with experience in areas such as, in-patient medicine, ICU medicine, ambulatory medicine and selected electives. We are also a fully integrated hospitalist teaching service.

Research Opportunities
Third year residents are required and residents in their first and second year encouraged to present either a poster or oral presentation at the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Physicians' Scientific Session.

Subspecialty Rotations & Ambulatory Setting and Training
Each year, all residents have the opportunity to take electives in various subspecialties including dermatology, ophthalmology, geriatrics, cardiology and much more. Our internal medicine residents receive their ambulatory education at Optimus Health Care, a federally qualified health center which receives funding from the federal government to provide health care services to the underserved and uninsured.

Didactic Components
Our residents attend several educational rounds throughout their residency. Their rounds range from Cardiology and Neurology with also a daily formal conference which regularly covers, by discipline, the entire spectrum of Internal Medicine and rotationally incorporates the disciplines of Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Hematology, Oncology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Infectious Disease Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Geriatrics and Nephrology.
