Medicine Unit

Intensive Care Unit
- 16-bed multi-specialty critical care unit
- One of three sister units which make up the Critical Care Service Line
- Nursing care is evidence-based and protocol driven
- The nursing staff is responsible for the implementation of a Hypothermia Protocol for Patients in Cardiac Arrest
- Nursing staff is currently working on a Brain Initiative Protocol for Delirium in the Critical Care Setting.
- The Intensive Care Unit received the Codman Award in 2004 for its glucose management in critically ill patients
- The Intensive Care Unit utilizes the Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) blended with an intense bedside orientation when training new staff members without critical care experience.
Cardiology Unit
- The Cardiology unit is the only Planetree unit at Stamford Hospital features 24 telemetry beds and 8 cardiac step-down beds
- One of three sister units which make up the Critical Care Service Line
- New grads receive an intense bedside orientation as well as classroom experiences. Unit-based preceptors work on a 1:1 basis with new staff members.
Oncology Unit
- Nursing staff is highly involved in the implementation of a complementary medicine program
Rehabilitation Unit
- 17-bed unit offering specialized rehabilitation care
- Unit offers short-term acute rehabilitation to patients with neurologic disorders and orthopedic injuries
- Patient satisfaction scores are consistently above the 90th percentile
- Strong interdisciplinary team approach to care
Emergency Department
- Accredited Level II trauma center
- Provides initial treatment to patients of all ages with a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries
- Team members provide rapid assessment and management of critical illnesses
- Fast Track section for prompt care of minor illnesses and injuries
