GEMS Program
GEMS (Graduates: Engaged, Mastering & Succeeding) is innovative and unlike any other nursing graduate training program in the area. The goal of the GEMS program is to ease the graduate nurses successfully into the patient care environment while providing them with the support they need to be successful in their chosen track of interest. Fostering clinical excellence and camaraderie, GEMS allows each new group to participate in clinical experiences within four identified tracks: Adult Health, Critical Care, Maternal Child, and Perioperative Services.* The program focuses on group discussion, however each nurse is encouraged to journal individual daily experiences throughout the required curriculum and clinical rotations.
Due to the high success of GEMS, we are now requiring any new graduate RN with less than one year of experience to enter Stamford Hospital through this orientation program. Currently, we have two GEMS cycles, which occur in February and August. We have currently closed the February 2012 recruitment. We anticipate beginning our recruitment for our August 2012 GEMS class in March 2012.
*These four tracks are subject to change based on the availability of staffing needs.
