Weight loss surgery is a proven method of achieving long-term weight control and helps patients regain their health. Currently, we offer several types of minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgical operations. A laparoscopic approach results in smaller incisions so that patients experience less pain and scarring and have a faster recovery from their specific weight loss surgery.

In this procedure, the surgeon places an adjustable silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach. The band molds the stomach into two connecting chambers, reducing the amount of food you can eat and it also slows digestion. Here at the Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Stamford Hospital, we offer both types of gastric stomach bands: Lap-Band and the Realize Band.

Unlike a bypass surgery in which a stomach pouch is created and the intestine is bypassed, a sleeve gastrectomy involves surgical removal of a large part of the stomach. The surgeon then reshapes the stomach to resemble a very thin banana. Since the stomach becomes far smaller, you consume far less food.
In gastric bypass surgery the stomach is cut and stapled to form a pouch and a part of the intestinal tract is bypassed. The small pouch allows patients to feel satisfied with very small portions and, as a result of the intestinal re-routing, some of the calories you eat will not be absorbed. When appropriate this procedure may be performed robotically, using a laproscopic approach which results in less pain, blood loss and scarring, along with a faster recovery time and return to normal activities.
An advance technique utilizing the daVinci Robot to perform the gastric bypass. This robotically-assisted procedure enables the surgeon to perform surgery that is more precise than standard surgical approaches.
In this procedure, the surgeon removes a large portion of your stomach and rearranges the small intestine to separate the flow of food from digestive juices, resulting in the absorption of fewer calories. This surgery is frequently used for patients with a BMI of 50 or higher.
Revisional surgery is used to treat patients who experience problems with a previous bariatric procedure or who have not been successful in achieving their weight loss goals. While most bariatric procedures are highly successful, some surgeries do require a follow-up procedure.
This is the most advanced approach to revisional surgery for patients who require an alteration or correction of a previous bariatric procedure. The surgeon inserts a small endoscope and instruments through the patient's mouth and guides to the stomach. This procedure eliminates incisions, which results in less pain and scarring, less risk of infection and a faster recovery. The Center for Surgical Weight Loss will be one of the few programs offering this advanced technique.
