Inpatient Rehabilitation Services at Van Munching
For those coping with a chronic or disabling illness or injury, Stamford Hospital's 17-bed, acute inpatient rehabilitation center provides the specialized physical & occupational therapy necessary to restore mobility and independence—and get back home.
Located at Stamford Hospital's Main Campus (third floor) and accredited by the Joint Commission, the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit has a highly trained, multi-disciplinary team of experienced caregivers who carefully and critically assess each patient upon admission. Additional assessments follow weekly to assure provided rehabilitation care matches patients' individual needs. Each patient is assigned a case manager to address questions and concerns during the stay and then assist with discharge planning.
Our unit features a state-of-the-art rehabilitation technology including gym and equipment, with the average rehabilitation inpatient receiving up to three hours of aggressive physical therapy, six days a week. Among the specially trained healthcare professionals on the rehabilitation center staff are physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, rehabilitation nurses and others.
Many of these experienced caregivers also "travel" throughout the Hospital, providing in-room or unit-based rehabilitation to inpatients not yet ready for transfer to the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit, or who don't qualify for an inpatient rehabilitation stay.
For patients coping with a severe trauma, illness or injury, psychological and spiritual counseling are also available.
Patients needing additional therapy after discharge can smoothly and easily transition into the Hospital's Outpatient Rehabilitation program.
