Emergency Department—Stamford Hospital
Stamford Hospital Main Campus
30 Shelburne Road

Hours: 24 hours per day/7 days per week
Stamford Hospital's Emergency Department provides care for life-threatening illnesses and injuries, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Emergency Department is staffed by full-time emergency physicians at all times. They are assisted by physician assistants and, at times, residents, who care for patients under their supervision.
The ED's "fast track" area, staffed by a skilled emergency physician, provides immediate attention for less acute emergencies, 11 am-11 pm.
It's rarely possible to "plan" a trip to the emergency room but it may be helpful to know about our busiest times. Typically patients experience longer waits between the hours of 11 am - 6 pm, though waiting time may vary according to the time of day and how many other patients are ahead of you. Monday is usually the busiest day. For patients who require admission to an inpatient unit, Stamford Hospital's bedside registration facilitates the process.
The Emergency Department (sometimes referred to as the Emergency Room) has a case manager and a patient representative assigned to help with your needs while in the ED and, if necessary, assist with your discharge. If you need additional help, please let us know.
