Stamford resident Dr. Sanford L. Swidler has received Stamford Hospital's Physician Recognition Award.  Dr. Swidler, who specializes in Pediatrics, was nominated by fellow physicians and hospital personnel for the honor.  
The Physician Recognition Award is given quarterly to the physician who has shown an ongoing commitment to the hospital's Planetree philosophy of patient-focused care and has been a role model to other staff members.

Additionally, the selected physician has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to living Stamford Hospital's daily values: Teamwork, Integrity, Compassion, Respect and Accountability.

"Dr. Swidler has been a model physician in the community for 25 years. Over this time, he has held a number of medical staff leadership positions, been involved in the community activities, and been a role model mentoring new physicians joining the staff," said Dr. Gerald B. Rakos, Stamford Hospital's Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. "Dr. Swidler is a classy, unassuming physician who goes about his work in a professional manner and is always willing to lend a hand while asking nothing in return."

Dr. Swidler has been an Attending Pediatrician on staff at Stamford Hospital since 1984. He also serves on Stamford Hospital's Medical Executive Committee.

After receiving his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Swidler completed a chief residency in Pediatrics at New York University Medical Center's Bellevue Hospital Center.
Dr. Swidler is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is an active member of the Fairfield County Medical Association.
