| STAMFORD, CT - December 21, 2009 Stamford Hospital's Lisa Shepard, Registered Dietitian, has recently become board certified as a Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO).
The Commission on Dietetic Registration offers board certification as a Specialist in Oncology Nutrition in recognition of the applicant's documented practice experience and successful completion of an examination in the specialty area.
"Lisa has been an integral part of our oncology team for 15 years, and this certification highlights her specialized knowledge, competence and experience in oncology nutrition," said Elizabeth Manfredo, M.S., R.D., Director of Cancer Services at Stamford Hospital's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center.
Shepard has practiced nutrition in corporate and health care settings for 27 years. Since 1994, she has served as the Dietitian for Stamford Hospital's Bennett Cancer Center, where she coordinated the Center's participation in a 10-year national nutritional research study "Women Intervention Nutrition Study."
Before joining Stamford Hospital, Shepard worked as Consulting Dietitian for Respiratory Associates Medical Office in Norwalk and as Consulting Nutritionist for Hallbrooke, St. Vincent's Medical Center's Behavioral Health Service, in Westport. She is also a co-founder of ProFitness Health Solutions LLC in Shelton, where she is responsible for the nutritional component of the program.
Shepard earned a bachelor's degree in science from Herbert Lehman College in New York City, where she majored in food and nutrition. She is a member of Oncology Nutrition, Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association.
