Stamford Hospital Modifies Visitation Policy for Maternal Child Health Areas
STAMFORD, CT - October 26, 2009

The H1N1 (swine flu)virus, similar to seasonal flu, is a widely-known public health issue, for which simple steps can be taken to limit the spread of this disease. We know that H1N1 is particularly harmful to pregnant women and children. In our continuing efforts to provide safe care to our patients and their families, the following visitor guidelines will be enforced effective 10/26/09:

• Only healthy adults, ages 18 and older, may be allowed to visit in Labor and Delivery, Mom/Baby and Pediatrics. Any adult with fever, sore throat or flu-like symptoms may not visit any patient in the hospital.

• Parents and healthy grandparents will be the only visitors allowed in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit.

• No children under the age of 18 will be permitted to visit any of the Maternal-Child areas.

Stamford Hospital is following the best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). At this point, the CDC does not know how widespread H1N1 flu will be. It is possible we may be forced to restrict visitation even further, depending on the presence of H1N1 in the community. We appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding as these changes are in the best interest of our patients and our ability to safely care for them.
