Stamford Hospital Expands Mobile Mammography Services With New Mobile Wellness Center
STAMFORD, CT - September 3, 2009Stamford Hospital has expanded its Mobile Mammography services to include digital mammography as well as bone density and cardiovascular screenings, all performed in its new Mobile Wellness Center.

Complete with all-digital equipment, the Mobile Wellness Center brings high-quality medical testing directly into the community. It features a comfortable registration area, two dressing rooms and a mammography/bone density screening room. Cardiovascular screenings include a health risk assessment: blood work and ultrasound screening for the heart, carotids, and vascular.  The center provides the convenience of having screenings done quickly on site, in about 20 - 30 minutes, without the need to travel to and from the Hospital.

"We are very excited to offer digital mammograms on our coach and to expand our services, providing added convenience to women in our community," said Joan Biagiarelli, Stamford Hospital's Mobile Mammography Program Manager. "Our patients will receive the same level of care that they would if they came to the hospital, and we expect to see an increase in our ability to serve women, thanks to the new digital equipment and additional screenings available."

The Mobile Wellness Center serves Fairfield and New Haven counties, operating Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stamford Hospital partners with Planned Parenthood of Connecticut, The Witness Project of Connecticut, Optimus Healthcare and other area clinics, churches, senior groups, health fairs, factories and corporations to bring these life-saving screenings to women.

To qualify for a baseline mammogram, women must be between the ages of 35 to 40, and 40 or older for a mammogram every year thereafter, as well as be established patients with a physician or clinic. In addition, the Mobile Mammography Program offers free services to qualified uninsured and underinsured women.
Stamford Hospital's Mobile Mammography Program has provided free mammograms for over 15 years through the generous support of the Breast Cancer Alliance of Greenwich, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, Clairol and Young Women's League of New Canaan.
