We are pleased to provide you with some frequently asked questions about Stamford Hospital and its facilities and services.
1. When do I go to the Immediate Care Center and when do I go to the Emergency Department?
The Immediate Care Center is designed for quick, convenient diagnosis and treatment of non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Some examples of what can be treated at the ICC include: flu and cold symptoms, sprains, strains, cuts/lacerations, bumps and bruises, sore throats, earaches, etc.
The Emergency Department at Stamford Hospital is equipped to handle life-threatening injuries 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you are not sure which facility to choose, err on the side of caution and head to the Emergency Department.

2. Where can I get information on the Tully Health Center?
The full name of the Tully Health Center is the Daniel P. & Grace I. Tully & Family Health Center after the Tully family who made a significant donation to The Campaign for Stamford Hospital. The Center opened in the spring of 2002 and includes, among other things, outpatient services, the Immediate Care Center and the Health & Fitness Institute. 3. How many doctors are affiliated with Stamford Hospital? I am new in town and want to ask questions about a doctor or find a new primary care doctor or specialist. Who do I call?

In addition to the many programs and events that Stamford Hospital offers to help you understand your body and improve your health and well being, we are pleased to offer the Health + Fitness Institute at the Tully Health Center. For more information, call 203-276-4567.

5. What types of services and programs are offered for pregnant women?
We have many programs for pregnant women, including childbirth preparation classes, maternity tours and more. To receive a maternity calendar, please send an e-mail to tmichaud@stamhealth.org .
6. How is Stamford Hospital supported? Where can I make a gift?
As a private, not-for-profit organization, Stamford Hospital relies on insurance companies, government payors (Medicare, Medicaid) and private donations to provide our services to the community. As a tax-exempt charity, we must provide emergency care to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Our hospital has one of the highest rates of uncompensated care in the state.

Quick Facts
Stamford Hospital has 305 inpatient beds in medicine, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, and medical and surgical intensive care. The hospital is also:
- A hospital that has received Magnet recognition for organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing philosophy and practice, adherence to national standards for improving patient care, leadership and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic adversity.
- Fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
- A certified Level II trauma center by the American College of Surgeons, one of only eight in Connecticut.
- A critical care unit recognized as one of the best in the nation by The National Coalition on Healthcare.
- The only Teaching Hospital Cancer Program in lower Fairfield County, the highest designation for a community hospital, granted by the American College of Surgeons.
The hospital maintains an educational partnership with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for its teaching programs in internal medicine, family practice, psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology and surgery.
