At our Care Partner Respite & Resource Center, located in the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit, visitors will find a welcoming place where they can take a break in a friendly, soothing atmosphere. Specially trained volunteers and social workers are on hand to provide emotional support and access to needed internal and external resources. Visitors can also access the Internet, learn about our Pastoral Care and Patient Relations services, get a bite to eat at the cafeteria and visit the gift shop. Information is available on the local area, including hotels, restaurants and other conveniences.

 

Located on the second floor of the main hospital, our interfaith chapel offers visitors and patients a peaceful retreat for prayer, meditation or contemplation. The chapel includes a wall on which visitors are welcome to share prayer requests or other concerns. A non-denominational service is offered on Fridays at 12:30 p.m., and a Roman Catholic Mass is celebrated on Saturdays at 4 p.m. All services are broadcast live on hospital TV channel 46. If visitors wish to contact a chaplain or priest, please dial extension 7584. If visitors have an urgent need for a priest or chaplain during evenings and weekends, dial 0 to have one paged, or ask a member of the care team.

Gift Shop

Specially screened and trained dogs, along with their handlers, make regular visits to medically appropriate care areas to spread cheer to patients and visitors. Contact Volunteer Services to request a visit at extension 7521, or call 203.276.7521 from outside the hospital.

 

To help patients stay connected to their lives outside the hospital, Stamford Hospital offers a limited number of laptop computers for daily use between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Each laptop is equipped to access the Internet, email, and view MS Word and PowerPoint files; most machines will play DVDs. To request a laptop for a patient, please ask a member of the patient’s care team as early as possible in the morning, or call the Medical Library at extension 7522, or 203.276.7522 from outside the hospital. Visitors are also free to connect to the Internet wirelessly with their own laptop via the hospital’s “Guest” network.
