Stamford Hospital is part of a select group of hospitals nationwide focused on patient-centered care. As a Planetree hospital, Stamford Hospital is committed to personalizing, humanizing, and demystifying the healthcare experience for patients and their families. Our approach to patient-centered care is holistic and encourages healing in all dimensions—body, mind, and spirit.
Responding to our patients’ needs and desires, we offer integrative therapies that, when combined with state-of-the-art medical care, provide truly individualized healthcare.
We offer massage, reiki, therapeutic touch and music and sound therapy.
We understand that nutrition is integral to healing, not only for good health, but also as a source of pleasure, comfort and familiarity during a difficult time. Our room service program allows patients to select meals according to their schedule and taste.
We recognize the vital role of spirituality in caring for the whole person. Our Pastoral Care Chaplains offer care, comfort, and support of diverse spiritual needs and are available 24/7 for patients, families, and staff.
Our volunteer-supported programs, such as HA HA clowns and Sunshine Team, provide patients with entertainment and diversion to help decrease stress and keep them engaged and involved.
We believe a supportive, caring environment for patients, families and staff is essential to providing quality care. We are all caregivers with the ability to positively impact the patient experience.
Our volunteer Tender Touch staff offers hand and foot massage which helps reduce stress so the mind and body have a chance to heal.
We’ve also created healing environments that are warm and welcoming with design that focuses on comfort and removing barriers between patient and staff. We offer The Care Channel (channel 49) to help patients relax, and at 8 p.m., we dim the lights, lower our voices, and close doors for Quiet Time to help induce sleep and healing.
We also recognize the importance of family support during stressful times. To accommodate these needs, we offer Patient Directed Visitation, where patients choose who can visit and when, as well as a Care Partner Resource Center for family members.
Hospitalization can be a life-changing event, but we view it as an opportunity to provide the necessary information for patients to participate in their own healing.
We make hourly rounds and have an open medical record policy, so patients can review their chart with their caregiver.
We’re also working with community partners to redefine healthcare to include the health and well-being of our larger community. Our Paint the Town Pink events and Hope in Motion are two examples. We also believe “going green” will provide better care for our patients, our community, and our planet. And we encourage volunteers to join us as important members of our healthcare team.
Patient & Family Partnership Council
In 2009, Stamford Hospital engaged patients and care partners to create the Patient & Family Partnership Council. Our volunteer council continues to be comprised of those who have utilized Stamford Hospital and are enthusiastic in helping the hospital improve our patient experience and philosophy of Patient-Centered Care.
Stamford Hospital strives to bring the patient and care partner perspective into everything we do. We know when we work together as a team with our Patient and Family Partnership Council, we improve our services and the healthcare experience for everyone.
